Railroad Crossing Work - Shamokin Township

Railroad Crossing Project to Begin Sunday on the Reading Turnpike in Shamokin Township, Northumberland County  

Montoursville, PA – Motorists who travel the Reading Turnpike (Route 2016) in Shamokin Township, Northumberland County, are advised that a railroad crossing project begins this week.

Beginning Sunday, August 11, 2024, the Reading Turnpike will be closed between Route 61 and Clark Road, while the contractor, CTW, installs a full-depth timber rail / highway crossing across the road. 

A detour using Route 61 and Mountain Road (Route 2020) will be in place for the duration of the project. The project is anticipated to be completed on Friday, August 16, 2024, weather permitting.

This work is a cooperative effort between the Shamokin Valley Rail Road and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

Motorists should be alert, slow down, expect delays in travel, and drive with caution.
